In making a video there are 3 main stages: Preparation, Filming and Editing. In the preparation stage, brainstorm some questions in class. What you are going to make? How you are going to make it? Who is going to do what? What are your limitations?
Once everything is ready to go, you can start filming. The simplest way is to shoot a linear video. That is when you shoot everything in sequence directly on to the camera. This removes the need for the editing stage.
Try a number of different takes and make sure you are getting enough audio so that you can hear the speakers’ voices. If you want to edit your video, you can always use a separate recording device at the same time and add it in over the top during the editing stage but most video cameras have a microphone attached.
After you have taken all the footage and audio, you can capture it all on your computer. Different computers capture video in different ways so look into this during the preparation stage and make sure you can do it.
If you are unable to submit your work as a DVD, you can send it as a DV tape or any other digital media format such as MPEG, AVI or WMA by burning it onto a CD.
